Families are selected to partner with Austin Habitat for Humanity based on need, ability to pay a mortgage and to partner. In addition, all applicants must be legal residents of the United States and must have lived or worked in our service area for past six months before applying. At Habitat for Humanity we service a population that is diverse in age, ethnicity, language, gender and ability but unique in socio-economic status.
The Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA) is federal civil rights law that prevents lenders from discriminating against credit applicants based on factors unrelated to their ability to repay. Specifically, ECOA protects consumers from lending discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex, marital status, age, public assistance, or the exercise of any rights under the Consumer Credit Protection Act.
