Meagan McCoy Jones Shares Why McCoy’s Building Supply Invests in Affordable Housing Alongside Austin Habitat

October 28, 2021

Q: Why is affordable housing important to you?

A: Being settled in community with others is fundamental to human flourishing.  Affordable, permanent housing is an important part of helping people be settled, supported, and flourish financially and emotionally.

Q: Why is McCoy’s Building Supply passionate about affordable housing?

A: We are a part of the housing supply chain, and so it is our responsibility and hope to be a part of solutions that help people find secure housing and build local communities.  We get the privilege to serve builders, remodelers, and consumers of all kinds, and most of us all have in common the desire to have a place to call home.  We are so grateful to be a part of the industry that helps make that possible for many.

Q: What are you providing in your philanthropic efforts in regards to affordable housing?

A: Our purpose at McCoy’s is to make life easier and more fulfilling for those who build.  This means providing great value in the products we sell that are part of building homes and great service and care to the people who make housing possible.  We look for opportunities to support community builders in the markets and neighborhoods we serve.  We partner with great organizations like Habitat for Humanity and Mobile Loaves & Fishes and with organizations doing work to make homes safer, more accessible, and more comfortable for others.

We also care deeply for the customers who do homebuilding work like concrete tradespeople, framers, carpenters, roofers, drywall installers, painters, plumbers, electricians, developers, general contractors, architects, engineers, and more.  We work to help our customers – many of whom are business owners themselves – thrive and grow their businesses successfully.  We’re all part of the housing supply chain and the economic impact it creates, which is significant.  That’s very special to me, and I’m deeply grateful for the dozens or hundreds of hands it takes to put a home together.

Q: Why did you invest in Austin Habitat for Humanity?

A: I believe in the mission and vision of Habitat, and I love when a great mission is backed up by tenacity, agility, discipline, hard work, and love.  The Austin Habitat team is the whole package – aren’t we so lucky to have them in our community!

Q: What does McCoy’s Building Supply hope to build for the greater Central Texas community?

A: I hope we’re a great employer, a great supplier, and that we leave the world better than we found it through our relationships and our work. That means being fair, reliable, and relevant to our customers, but it also means being caring, supportive, and genuine in how we treat each other.

Q: What are you “Born to Build”?

A: For whatever reason, I think the place God has placed me is right here, helping to lead and grow our family’s business with the support and talents of our outstanding McCoy’s team.  I hope people encounter McCoy’s and feel cared for and known. There is no such thing as too much love in the world for others, so I really hope to be a part of building companies, communities, and families where people are loved well.
