Why We Do It

Central Texas is experiencing rapid growth and increased housing demand, which is affecting middle-income workers such as teachers, nurses, and first responders, who are being priced out of the market. Housing is considered affordable when it costs less than 30% of a household’s income; however, 48% of Austin renters are currently cost-burdened.

Austin’s unique blend of career opportunities, vibrant culture, and high quality of life has attracted a wave of new residents from across the country. This surge in demand has driven up home prices, further complicating homeownership for those already struggling with affordability. Without affordable housing in Austin, these essential community members face long commutes, financial stress, and the risk of leaving the region, threatening both individual stability and community vitality.

Affordable homeownership helps to alleviate the cost burden of housing and raises the educational achievement of children, improves health, encourages greater civic engagement, and generates significant economic activity.

Bridging the Gap

Partner With Us

Affordable homeownership is vital, offering much more than just shelter: academic stability for children, community strength, and financial security for families. It can break the cycle of poverty and foster long-term prosperity. Yet, rising housing costs continue to widen the gap between those who can afford homes and those who cannot. Our collective efforts can make a significant impact here.

With 40 years of success, Austin Habitat for Humanity is poised to lead this mission. Our approach, supported by volunteers, local partners, and professionals, ensures that every dollar makes a real difference. To achieve our goals, we need your support. Your investment will help build homes, nurture families, and strengthen our community, allowing more Central Texans to own homes and build brighter futures.
