3M’s Stacey Claessens Shares How We Need to Be Intentional in Closing Racial Disparities, and Help to Provide Equitable Solutions
Q: Why did your organization support the 2022 Austin Habitat for Humanity Woman Build?
A: 3M has a strong, internal women’s leadership forum centered around accelerating the inclusion and advancement of women globally. Together with the fact that 3M Austin has enjoyed a historical community partnership with Austin Habitat for Humanity dating back many years – with our last Woman build in October 2020 – this build reflects our common synergies.
Q: How do you and your organization empower women in the Austin community?
A: 3Mgives, the philanthropic arm of our company, works to reach underrepresented community members – including women – through our local support in the Austin community via our three giving pillars: Education STEM Equity, Environment and Community (basic needs, youth development, and diverse arts). Through our community and volunteer engagement, we will continue to work to reach and empower the women of our local community in order to contribute to Austin’s vibrancy.

Q: Why is giving back to improve affordable housing in our community important to you?
A: Housing and racial equity are linked, and as a community, I believe we need to be intentional in closing racial disparities and help to provide equitable solutions.
Q: What does home mean to you?
A: To me, home is my sanctuary – a respite from the heat or cold, with familiar textures, smells, and family – and filled with photos that trigger wonderful memories and history – and all mixed in with a little barking; from our two dogs!
