At-Home Building Bar Activity: Back to School (Part 2)
DIY Chalkboard
Step 1: Gather your materials
For this project, you’ll need to head to the far, back corner of the ReStore to the paint and cabinet departments. The items you need to grab include a cabinet door, chalkboard spray paint, paint, a paint brush, painter’s tape, and chalk. If you aren’t able to find all of the items at the ReStore, you can purchase the rest at another home improvement or craft store. You can also skip any items you may already have on hand at home.
Step 2: Prep your space and apply chalkboard spray paint to the cabinet door.
Follow the instructions on the back of the chalkboard spray paint can. For best results, apply multiple coats, shake the can well at the beginning and after every minute of use, and beware of drips! Let the paint dry overnight before moving on to the next step.
Step 3: Apply tape and paint the outer part of the cabinet door
If you’re like us, you probably got chalkboard spray paint everywhere! Grab the painter’s tape and your favorite paint, and it’ll be fixed in no time though. Be patient with applying the tape otherwise you’ll get paint all over your new chalkboard surface.
Step 4: Remove the tape and start using your new chalkboard!
Whether it’s for school or recreation, this chalkboard will come in handy!
