Delores Robinson’s Story
Delores Robinson has been living in Austin her whole life. Her favorite thing about living here is the people – she loves how everyone is so friendly. For the past seven years, Delores has been working as a Bus Monitor for Austin Independent School District.
When Delores’s daughter, Tracy, moved into an Austin Habitat home in 2017, Delores applied herself. She is excited to join her daughter as a Habitat homeowner! Delores says her favorite part about her experience so far is meeting all the friendly people on staff and in the program.
When she moves into her home in Scenic Point in Northeast Austin, her great-grandson Jaquan (16) will also move in. Jaquan takes care of Delores due to her arthritis, and he’s excited to live with Delores in her new home. Delores believes that owning a home will change her life because she’ll have more stability and won’t have to worry about where she will live next year. A home will allow Delores to have the freedom to host friends and family, plant flowers, and sit outside on her porch. Her goals for the future include working for a few more years, then retiring. In her new home, Delores is looking forward to having a garden, spending time with family, and enjoying retirement.
When asked what she would like to say to the sponsors and volunteers helping build her home, Ms. Robinson comically responds, “I will keep making you breakfast!” She added, “I am very thankful to God, this is a blessing from heaven. I appreciate you so much for your time and joy. If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t have a home. I thank God for all of you.”
Delores moved into her Scenic Point home in June of 2019.
