Connie has lived in San Marcos for her whole life and has a deep connection to the community. She is grateful to be surrounded by family members and friends, and she has a strong spirit of compassion for the people in her community, especially children. However, her dream of putting down roots of her own was always out of reach.
Connie’s devotion to helping others comes through in her work, where she is a dedicated teacher of children as young as one year old at a local preschool. Not only does she support the development of children at her job, she has also gone the extra mile in her commitment to helping kids have a better life through adoption. Connie’s choice to adopt two children, now age eight and twelve, has positively impacted all of their lives, and she recognizes that the next step for her family is a safe, stable and affordable home.
Right now, Connie and her family are renting part of a house in San Marcos and dealing with frequent flooding issues, and Connie recognizes that this is not the best place for her or her kids. However, she has not been able to afford to buy a home in the area, and the skyrocketing growth of San Marcos and Hays County likely means that buying a high-quality home will remain out of reach without assistance.
Connie is grateful that she’s been able to get involved with Habitat, which she found through her incredibly strong community connections – she already knew people who owned Habitat homes! She is enjoying the volunteer experience and looks forward to building her home this fall and moving in. Once the family is settled in their new home, Connie looks forward to preparing for retirement and ensuring her children are able to continue their education in college.
Connie is thankful for Austin Habitat and all of our supporters, and considers the opportunity to have a home of her own a blessing for herself and her family!
Connie and her family moved into their home in August of 2020.
