Fall 2021 Builds
This year Realty Austin will be building their 10th home for Nina and her family. Nina is a single mother of four young boys juggling her professional development and supporting her children. They currently reside in an unsafe apartment too small for their large family and where privacy is hard to come by. In addition, she realized housing prices were quickly becoming unattainable in her hometown. Nina did not initially qualify for the homeownership program, but after two years of hard work, Nina improved her credit score, lowered her debt, and now qualifies. Nina plans to go back to school to become a nurse.
House that Credit Unions Built
This fall, we are proud to have our second House That Credit Unions Built. Crystal is a motivated single mother of two sick children living in Elgin looking to improve her family’s quality of life. She currently resides in an RV with limited space, the challenges of cooking healthy meals in a small kitchenette, countryside wildlife impacting a play area for her children to exercise, and winter nights where she has found herself outside in the cold changing out propane tanks to keep her family warm. In addition, she commutes to Austin daily for work-limiting time with her children.
Home Depot Build
Home Deport is supporting Austin Habitat for the 13th straight year! Loana, a single mother of four children from Honduras, is looking to transform their lives. Her eldest daughter has a heart condition that has caused financial strain and accumulated medical bills for years. Combined with rising housing prices and being the sole provider for her large family, she always thought she’d be in an apartment. This home will provide her children with the freedom to grow, learn and play in their own space without worry, financial stability with affordable mortgage payments. Homeownership is just the first step to improving her family’s lives.
Community Build 1
We are thrilled to kick off our second Community Build for the year! Yeison and Rosane are Cuban immigrants with two young children. They temporarily live with Yeison’s mother, but with a few other family members also living there, the home is too crowded for them to live comfortably. They know that owning a home will mean safety, freedom, and security - all of the things they fled their home country in search of. They love helping build their neighbors’ homes and helping make their homeownership dreams come true as well. They are excited to live on their terms and not have to worry about disturbing a household full of loved ones.
Community Build 2 - Tech Build
This fall we are excited to have our Tech Build with our incredible tech partnerships building a home for Shabreca and her family! Shabreca is a single mother currently working two jobs seven days a week to make ends meet. To qualify for a home, she worked with our financial counselors who taught her how to manage her finances, reduce her debt, and set up for her future success. She learned these new skills, and she is blessed to pass them along to her growing daughter. Homeownership means the chance to work one job, spend more time with her daughter, and have space to foster children in the future.
